Working principle:
A method for determining the wave velocity of the formation where the borehole is located by using the arrival time of the S-wave signal from the source received by the geophone placed in the borehole.
In the borehole, the well fluid is used as a coupling agent, and an instantaneous impact force is applied perpendicular to the borehole wall with an electromagnetic shock source. Two types of particle vibration are generated in the borehole formation. One is that the particle vibration direction is perpendicular to the borehole wall , Which propagates along the direction of the borehole, is called S wave (shear wave, shear wave); the other is that the particle vibration direction is the same as the propagation direction and is called P wave (compression wave, longitudinal wave).
The detector receives the S-wave vibration signal and converts it into an electrical signal, and then transmits it to the computer. After the computer processes the signal, the computer
uses two cross-correlation analysis methods to automatically calculate the time difference between the S-wave propagation between the two detectors. Find out the S-wave propagation speed between the two channels.
When the shock plate is struck on the ground and an impact force is applied to the ground, P waves and S waves propagate downward along the borehole formation.
When the P waves and S waves propagate to the position of the detector, the detector can convert the P wave and The S-wave first arrival time and vibration waveform
are converted into electrical signals and recorded by the instrument. The wave velocity value of the stratum between the two points can be calculated from the first
arrival time difference of the adjacent P · S waves.
